Today we will be driving:
Volvo XC60
Volvo XC90
And Maybe
Ford Explorer
Ford Edge/Escape
I shall report my findings later today.

The XCs were on my wife's shortlist, even though I tried to convince her to wait for a V60. The Fords never garnered a look (other than the Explorer looks "ok"). She ended up in a Grand Cherokee Overland.

I'd take the XC60 only if it were the R-Design. Although Ford has some nice qualities too, at a far lower price point

Drive a Mazda CX-5 and/or CX-9 while you're at it.

One the Ford side, most buyers who look at our SUVs end up in the Escape, and for good reason.
That said, you should drive them all.

my mother bought the larger of the Hyundai crossovers. Its way too big for her needs. I dont live there any more so its mostly just her driving around and occasionally with another couple. she really should have gotten something more along the lines of an Edge or Escape but for some reason they were too small. I did not support her decision. Try to get her past the bigger is better idea especially if she doesn't need the size.

I LOVE the XC60! My dad has an S60 and its the best car he's ever owned.
The xc90 will feel a little dated, but you can get a great deal on them! They want to move them.
I've found Fords look good but just don't drive or feel as nice...
Good luck!

Money an object? Get the Ford Edge, money don't mather? Get XC60. (I'm guessing Volvo's cost more in the US :) )

The 60 and the 90 will be the most comfortable of this batch but I'd wait to see what the new 90 looks like/is like before deciding. The current one is a tired, old, bland design at this point.

my sister just got a fully loaded 2014 XC90 with everything for $31,500. Ex loaner with 2500 miles. The few remaining 2014's have some huge discounts for an absolutely legendary machine!

True, but there are good dealer incentives on them!

How about the Rav4? Toyota makes awesome cars. The TSX wagon might also be a good choice.
It's just too bad we don't get the Cruze and Focus wagons over here :(

They probably want to be rid of them before the new body style comes out.

New edge next year i think...
Escape way over states it's MPG i hear
Explorer is real nice, especially dependent on the trim level you get. You might be able to get more gizmos or a higher trim line than you can get in the Volvo for the money.
Volvo's will do fine, but obviously more $$

The XC60 is great. My mother has a 2013 T6, and says that it is the second best car she has ever had (first being her first car, a 1978 Camaro). It is super comfortable, and comes with 3 years/30,000 miles of free maintenance. I'd highly recommend it.
